MEDICINE HAT — Precipitation from the most recent storm is moving it’s way east from the foothills in Alberta and Alberta environment says most rivers in southern Alberta have peaked or will be peaking soon.

The flow rate on the South Saskatchewan river continues to rise as it takes in what the Oldman and Bow rivers send it.

At 6 a.m. Thursday the rate was just under 620 cubic meters per second.

Out of an abundance of caution, the city of Medicine Hat will be closing all boat launches to the public, as well as any low lying trails.

While the risk remains relatively low, the city is asking the public to stay off the river as flow rates are changing rapidly.

A high stream flow advisory remains on the Bow, Oldman and South Saskatchewan rivers.

This latest rain event pushed the total for June in Medicine Hat to just over 76 mm or about 3 inches.

A bit more than 28 mm was recorded at the airport by Environment Canada from Monday up to midnight last night.

Our peak wind yesterday was 89 kph and some trees were knocked over and branches broken as a result.

At One Four, the wind topped out at 100 kph
