Lack of physician coverage

Bassano emergency department closing temporarily

May 24, 2022 | 1:02 PM

BASSANO, AB – An emergency department in southeastern Alberta will be closed for 15 hours beginning on May 24.

Alberta Health Services says the Bassano Health Centre emergency department will be closed from 5 p.m. on May 24 to 8 a.m. on May 25 due to lack of physician coverage.

AHS says it is working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time, and that nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for inpatients.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.

In a release, AHS says it is grateful for the support of surrounding health-care centres and medical staff, and thanks the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
