Get fixed up: Library hosting Repair Cafe in June

May 20, 2022 | 12:38 PM

If you’ve set foot in the Medicine Hat Public Library lately you know that it’s about a lot more than just books.

But one upcoming initiative might still surprise you.

You could check out books on do-it-yourself repairs or you could stop by the library’s Repair Cafe early on June 5.

“The repair cafe is inviting volunteers from the community to come in and help show people how they can fix their broken items so that they’re able to fix them in the future by themselves or if it’s not fixable that they at least know it’s no longer fixable,” explains adult and community librarian Miranda Leduc.

She says it’s an example of community helping community.

The volunteers will teach people how to fix small household appliances and bicycles, basic mending and sewing, jewelry repair and small woodwork projects.

“It’s actually really popular to have repair cafes in a lot of different communities throughout the world so that’s where that came from. Leduc says. “We thought it would be really good. we’re having a sustainability week so there’s a lot of different events happening and this happened to fit into the theme of sustainability week.”

The Repair Cafe is on will run from 1-4 p.m.
