Sale pending on Aurora Sun facility in Medicine Hat

May 19, 2022 | 1:40 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Invest Medicine Hat is encouraged by the news there may soon be a new owner of the Aurora Sun facility in Brier Park.

In a statement to CHAT News, Erik Van Enk, the managing director for Invest Medicine Hat, says they’re aware of who the potential buyer is, but are unable to share the information as it’s not yet public.

However, they look forward to working with the buyer once the transaction closes in the final quarter of this year, to maximize the economic benefit of the sale for the community.

Aurora Cannabis confirmed it has entered into a share purchase agreement to sell Aurora Sun, and the closing of the sale is subject to certain standard conditions for both parties.

No further details will be released until the sale is complete.

Operations were suspended at the Box Springs plant in late 2020, and it was listed for sale by Colliers Canada in March of last year.

MJ Biz Daily, a marijuana industry trade publication, was first to report the pending sale, which was included in regulatory filings by Aurora last week.

The company recently announced it would be winding down operations at its Aurora Sky greenhouse near Edmonton, and recently sold a greenhouse in Denmark and another in Exeter, Ont.

Aurora Cannabis invested more than $250 million in Aurora Sun, but the pending sale is worth just under $47 million, according to the filing.
