MHC getting more than $300,000 to create more spaces
Medicine Hat College will receive more than $300,000 to create more spaces in in-demand programs and give students more opportunities to train close to home.
The province is investing $5.3 million in the Alberta at Work initiative in the southern region to support more than 180 new post-secondary spaces in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. MHC will get $324,000, the University of Lethbridge $3.7 million and Lethbridge College $1.2 million. There is no breakdown of how many seats will be created at each of the three institutions.
The targeted enrolment expansion program will invest in six programs including agriculture, health care, science and IT. Along with ensuring students have more opportunities to train close to home in the programs they choose, the government says the initiative also supports industry with the highly skilled and talented workforce they need for the future.
“Graduates from Medicine Hat College have vital roles in creating and sustaining the vibrant economy and communities of southeast Alberta,” states MHC president and CEO Kevin Shufflebotham in a release. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve more students at our Brooks campus, and appreciate the government’s role in making college education even more accessible.”
