Medicine Hat’s ‘Father of Boxing’ to be inducted to Sports Wall of Fame
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat’s Sports Wall of Fame will welcome a new member later this month.
William Lauder will be inducted on May 26 during a ceremony at the Big Marble Go Centre.
The city says the late William Lauder was instrumental in the development of the Medicine Hat Boxing Club. Lauder loved boxing and was dedicated to the betterment of the sport in the Medicine Hat area. He trained anyone with an interest in boxing, often supplying equipment and training at no cost and soon was known as the “Father of Boxing” in the community.
“The Sports Wall of Fame not only recognizes leaders in sport and honours both individuals and teams of the past and present to inspire the future,” said James Will, director for the parks and recreation department. “William Lauder has proven his outstanding commitment to the development and betterment of boxing and leaves us with a legacy to continue well into the future.”
