One man in custody following ‘violent episode’ in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A 38-year-old man is in custody after a high risk incident in Medicine Hat Tuesday evening.

Police were called out to the 2100 block of 10 Avenue NE for a “check on the well being” call for service.

As the investigation unfolded, it was determined that a “violent episode” had occurred at a home and the suspect was still inside.

Police say out of an abundance of caution and concern for public safety, the suspect, and police, a variety of specialty units were deployed to help resolve the situation.

The units included the Crisis Negotiation Team, Tactical Team, Drone Team, and K9 Unit.

Just after 10 p.m., police took the man into custody for several offences.

Prior to the arrest, three flashbangs were deployed. These are used as distraction devices.

The incident is still being investigated and more details will be released once the investigation is complete.
