City encourages participation in community survey with IPSOS

May 4, 2022 | 11:03 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A major polling and research firm has been enlisted by the City of Medicine Hat to survey residents on a variety of community topics.

IPSOS will conduct the survey from May 5-25, and city staff are encouraging residents to participate if they are called by the company.

The results will provide council and administration with reliable data to better understand community sentiment around a variety of city topics, in turn supporting decision-making.

“This is a key opportunity to share your thoughts in a meaningful way and help the city understand where efforts are well-aligned with community values and expectations and where improvements should be made. It’s 15 minutes of your time well spent,” says Colleen Graham, director of corporate communications, in a news release.

The feedback captured through the survey is considered representative of the population as it utilizes a scientific methodology, says the city. IPSOS will use a randomized telephone survey (65 per cent cellphones and 35 per cent landlines) with an overall sample size of 400. The results are considered accurate to within ±4.9%, 19 times out of 20.

A wide range of topics will be covered, from what residents feel is the most important issue affecting the community to levels of satisfaction with garbage and recycling services.

An online option will be available on medicinehat.ca starting on May 5.

The results of the survey will be reported to the city in late June and be shared with the community at that time.

The results of the survey will be benchmarked against other municipalities, and the survey will be repeated every two years. Graham says that will allow the city to track progress over time.
