E-scooters could hit city streets this spring

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A new mode of transportation could be coming to Medicine Hat.

E-scooters could be rolling downtown and on our city trails as early as this spring.

The city was given the green light to pursue a pilot program for e-scooters in the community back in January.

A tentative agreement is now in the works with an e-scooter provider, and the city is in the process of adjusting a bylaw so they can be used safely on city streets and walking trails.

Scott Richter, business and city manager for the City of Medicine Hat, says it will be another way for people to commute and enjoy getting from one place to the other.

“People like to recreate and they like the trail system in Medicine Hat, and they talk quite a bit about how well connected we are,” Richter says. “This is just another way to help people connect throughout the community, to utilize those trails, to use an e-scooter to get around those trails if they don’t have another piece of transportation.”
