Third daily flight coming soon

Things are looking up at Medicine Hat’s airport

MEDICINE HAT, AB – With travel restrictions lifting Hatters are ready to jet out of the city.

So WestJet is adding a third daily departure to Calgary this summer.

About one year ago the company temporarily suspended all Medicine Hat flights, citing restrictive travel policies and business conditions. WestJet re-introduced one Medicine Hat flight last summer and added a second daily departure this month.

A third daily flight will start at the beginning of July.

Airport operations supervisor Logan Boyd says the additional flight shows WestJet has confidence in the market and is good for the community.

“Adding options for travellers I think that’s something that’s going to be welcomed by the community and that’s indicative of them adding the flight in July right. So obviously Hatters are embracing the existing service and they want to use it even more.”

Flights will leave Medicine Hat around 7 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. with arrivals set for midnight, 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

WestJet was offering three daily flights for Medicine Hat prior to the pandemic.

Boyd adds they continue to talk to other airlines about coming to the city and that Invest Medicine Hat continues its work to find developers for the YXH Gateway project to increase enjoyment of the area and improve the travel experience.
