Mar 16, 2022 | 3:00 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Four men charged with conspiracy to commit murder after arrests at last month’s border blockade in Coutts made brief court appearances in Lethbridge on Tuesday.

Christopher Lysak, Chris Carbert, Anthony Olienick, and Jerry Morin are set to return to Lethbridge provincial court on March 28.

Christopher Lysak, 48, is also charged with uttering threats, possession of a weapon, and mischief to property over $5,000. He has been denied bail.

Bail hearings for Lysak’s three co-accused have not been held yet.

13 people were charged after RCMP found a cache of long guns, handguns, body armour, large amounts of ammunition and high-capacity magazines in three trailers.

More investigation, more charges

As well, RCMP have laid charges against two other individuals involved in the Coutts protest.

James Edward Sowery, 36, of Flagstaff County, Alta., is charged with assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

RCMP say that on Feb. 14, Sowery was driving a large commercial vehicle that had stopped on the side of the road. After a short time, he accelerated and drove at officers who had to run out of the way to avoid getting hit.

He will appear in Lethbridge provincial court on March 28.

Joanne Lynne Person, 62, of Coutts, Alta., is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

RCMP allege she drove a large pickup truck through a blockade, heading south in the northbound lanes, and was involved in a head-on collision.

She will appear in Lethbridge provincial court on March 23
