Officials warn of oilpatch labour shortages

Members of Canada’s oilpatch say labour shortages will constrain their ability to ramp up production after the U.S. imposed sanctions on Russia’s oil and gas industry.
The U.S. is facing a shortfall of approximately 700,000 barrels of crude per day after President Joe Biden banned imports of Russian petroleum products earlier this week.
Industry experts say Canada has the capacity to export an additional 200,000 to 400,000 barrels per day to the U.S.
But many workers left the industry after a seven-year downturn in energy prices and insiders say it won’t be easy to entice enough people back to boost capacity in the short term.
