Leslyn Lewis, Ontario MP and former Tory leadership candidate, to launch new bid

OTTAWA — Ontario MP and former Conservative leadership candidate Leslyn Lewis will launch her campaign today for the party’s top job.

The Canadian Press has learned the announcement will be made over social media.

Lewis is among prospective candidates planning to throw their hats into the ring this week. 

Another is former Quebec premier Jean Charest, who is set to appear in Calgary on Thursday. 

So far, only Pierre Poilievre has formally declared his intention to run to replace former party leader Erin O’Toole.

Lewis placed third behind O’Toole in the 2020 Conservative leadership race, where she entered as a relative unknown and enjoyed considerable backing from the party’s social conservative wing and grassroots members in Western Canada.
