MEDICINE HAT, AB – National Nutrition Month is happening throughout March and this year’s theme is Ingredients for a Healthier Tomorrow.

Dietitians across Canada are acting on the ingredients needed to create healthier people, communities and planet.

This month, they are offering a free online recipe E-Book and encouraging people to think about their eating habits.

Local registered dietitian Jennifer Paterson says she asks clients a few questions. Including are your food choices supporting your health goals? Are your food choices sustainable and affordable? And what are you doing to reduce waste?

She also offers some tips on how to save some money at the grocery stores including buying frozen produce over fresh in the winter.

“You can look for, as well as canned. You want to make sure you’re buying canned no-salt-added when it comes to veggies and the no-sugar-added when it comes to canned fruit. Those are great,” Paterson said. “Also, looking at the unit price of food. There can be a huge difference in cuts of meats so always looking at the unit price like per kilo, the cost per kilo because you can base your meal plan for that week around the things that are on sale.”

The recipe E-Book can be found here.
