Edmonton woman charged for threats against public officials
EDMONTON, AB- A 41- year-old Edmonton woman is facing numerous charges after allegedly sending threatening emails directed to members of the Alberta Legislative Assembly, and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
According to the RCMP, they received a report on Oct. 6 2021 from Health Canada of emailed threats directed at an employee of the Public Health Agency of Canada and a number of other recipients.
RCMP says the Alberta RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team ( INSET) conducted a lengthy investigation into the emails. The investigation involved interviews, a search warrant, and a forensic examination of digital evidence.
During the probe, police discovered hundreds of emails, some threatening in nature. Police say the letters were sent between Nov. 12, 2020, and Oct. 13, 2021, to 50 recipients including members of the Alberta Legislature, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and news outlets.
