Comfort cabins and expanded services ahead of camping season in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT — With snow on the ground it doesn’t seem like it’s time to think about the summer camping season yet, but people are already making their reservations for the Gas City Campground in Medicine Hat.

There are also a couple of changes for the 2022 camping season, including two comfort cabins that are available for people to rent.

The city used stimulus money from the province to construct the cabins, in addition to expanding the number of serviced sites by 24 at Gas City.

Michele Josey, the manager of Community Connections with Parks and Recreation with the City of Medicine Hat says a change in how people like to camp was behind the addition of the cabins.

“We’ve seen some of the newer sites at Elkwater and this way of camping has probably changed for some people,” explains Josey.

As a result she says “we want to ensure that our campgrounds are not only accessible, which the comfort cabins are to all of our campers, and we’ve noticed the trend and the change in the way people are camping and we just wanted to stay current.”

There are also 10 camping spots available for reservations at Echo Dale regional park.

They are unserviced and best suited to tenting or for people with smaller RV’s.

Gas City campground will be at the Spring Home and Leisure trade show beginning on April 22, just ahead of opening day for camping on April 29.
