MEDICINE HAT, AB – The 2022 budget calls for 171 million dollars over the next three years to expand enrollment in areas with skills shortages.

There will be 7000 new seats in programs like computer science, finance, energy, health and aviation.

Medicine Hat College president and CEO Kevin Shufflebotham says the college is well on track and ready to respond to future labour needs. He says the college is planning on adding more students to the practical nursing program next year and they will have a new data analytics program ready for students in the school year.

The college is also set to complete a major expansion that enhances capacity in health simulation.

The provincial budget also signals investment in work-integrated learning, which gets students working in the field.

Shufflebotham says the college has programs in place already for their health programs and they are looking to expand it to other faculties.
