MEDICINE HAT, AB – On a night where the Medicine Hat Tigers played one of their most complete defensive games of the season, there was little in the way of scoring.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes shut down the Tigers’ attack for much of Saturday night’s game, keeping the Tabbies to the outside and hanging on for the 2-1 victory at Co-Op Place.

It was a night of missed chances for Medicine Hat as they had a goal less than a minute into the game by Teague Patton waved off followed by a shot directly off the post by Oren Shtrom.

A late third comeback attempt by the Tigers fell one goal short, as they dropped their sixth in a row after a 7-2 drubbing at the hands of the Swift Current Broncos on Friday evening.

After Patton’s early marker was called back, the Hurricanes jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first with Yegor Klavdiev hopping on a Tyson Laventure rebound that sat in the crease.

The Hurricanes added another goal five minutes later on the power play, as Jett Jones executed a perfect tip off a Logan McCutcheon point show to double their lead.

It remained a 2-0 ‘Canes lead until the third, when Brayden Boehm scored a highlight-reel goal off the rush with a toe-drag out waiting Jared Picklyk to get the Tigers on the board.

That’s as close as the Tigers would come though, as the Hurricanes held off a Medicine Hat push with Beckett Langkow pulled to move to 5-0 on the season against the Tabbies.

Langkow made 23 saves in the loss, while Picklyk allowed just the one Tigers goal on 21 shots against to pick up the two points.

Medicine Hat’s struggles on the power play continued for a sixth straight game as they are 0-for-19 over their last 19 chances.

It was also a homecoming to Co-Op Place for former Tiger and current Hurricanes winger Corson Hopwo since being traded at the WHL trade deadline, while Logan Barlage had an assist for Medicine Hat in his first game against his former team.

The Tigers’ next chance at ending the slide will come on Monday afternoon, hosting the Prince Albert Raiders for a matinee affair at 2:00 pm.
