Dust warning, near-zero visibility

RCMP responding to collisions on Highway 3

Alberta Emergency Alert has issued a dust warning for in the Municipal District of Taber and police say they are responding to multiple calls of collisions and near-zero visibility in the town and the highway.

The alert says there is a strong wind storm, carrying dust and sand east of the McCain’s plant and the Chin potato domes on Highway 3.

“Visibility is very poor and Highway 3 is closed between Range Road 185 to 190. Traffic on Highway 3 is being detoured. Please avoid travel in this area,” reads the warning.

The Taber Police Service says emergency crews are at the scene of a collision near Chin at about 1 p.m.

Motorists and residents are asked to check 511 Alberta for the most up to date information on highway conditions.

Wind warnings are in effect across southern Alberta on Monday afternoon. Environment Canada says strong winds with gusts up to 90 km/h will happen this afternoon in Medicine Hat-Bow Island-Suffield before slowing in the evening.
