U.S.-bound trucks moving toward Coutts after brief blockade near Milk River

Feb 3, 2022 | 11:21 AM

MILK RIVER, AB – Trucks are again rolling south toward the main U.S. border crossing in southern Alberta.

A new blockade on the highway leading to the Coutts border crossing briefly choked off traffic heading south today.

But hours later, a long line of U.S.-bound trucks sounded their horns and made their way through.

RCMP Cpl. Curtis Peters says things are positive at the moment.

He says trucks are now crossing the border into Montana.

An agreement for a partial pullback yesterday did open a lane on each side of the highway at Coutts allowing for traffic to resume.

A blockade there had been in place since Saturday, with demonstrators protesting a COVID-19 vaccination mandate for cross-border truckers and broader public health measures.

The second blockade then started up just north of Coutts, but RCMP say there has been dialogue with protesters there.

Mounties say there will be police escorts for those heading to the border.
