Athletics Canada CEO David Bedford facing complaint over his racy Twitter posts

Jan 17, 2022 | 1:01 PM

TORONTO — Athletics Canada CEO Dave Bedford is facing a complaint about his Twitter activity.

The tweets in question were posted over a number of days and were sexual in nature.

Bedford was informed by a member of the Athletics Canada board of directors about the complaint on Saturday.

He deleted the tweets later Saturday, and made the Twitter account private.

Bedford was named CEO of Athletics Canada — the national governing body for track and field — on April 1, 2019, after he held several other top executive positions in his 40-plus years working in Canadian sports.

He was the executive director, marketing and communications with the Canadian Olympic Committee, and was responsible for developing and launching the Canadian team’s “Paint the Town Red” promotional campaign prior to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

He was also the executive director of Team Canada for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, was the senior vice-president of business operations for the Toronto Argonauts and the 100th Grey Cup Festival,

He’s also a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal.

Athletics Canada did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
