MEDICINE HAT, AB – Upgrades to Athletic Park designed with the fan experience in mind are well underway.

The $3-million project adds a shade canopy, seating, fenced gates and a ticket office to Medicine Hat’s top baseball diamond.

Crews are currently working on the shade canopy which will protect fans on both sides of the stadium.

Project manager Mike Hirsch says construction is going very well on all of the upgrades and it’s about 60 per cent done. They have dealt with a few delays on project deliveries.

“Which was to be expected with the conditions we have now so we’ve been patient and that’s where that coordination came in for both the crew on site and our management crew,” Hirsch said.

The project is expected to wrap up in the first week of March. It will be ready to go for when the Mavericks return after opting out of the past two Western Canadian Baseball League seasons due to the pandemic.
