New vaccination incentives needed, says Alberta’s former top doctor

Jan 13, 2022 | 12:15 PM

A former chief medical health officer says Alberta needs new COVID-19 vaccination incentives to help protect health care and the public.

Dr. James Talbot says that should include both positive and negative incentives.

He says suggests increased health-care premiums for unvaccinated people or expanding the types of businesses that require proof of immunization.

Deborah Yedlin of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce says business can’t take another lockdown, but could use more support from government.

She says that could include legislation that supports employer mandates for staff vaccinations and to increase the availability of testing and contact tracing.
