Saskatchewan extends public health orders, stops short of bringing in new measures

Jan 12, 2022 | 5:04 PM

REGINA – Public health orders in Saskatchewan, which were set to expire at the end of the month, are being extended to the end of February.

They include mandatory masking in all indoor public spaces, mandatory self-isolation for a positive COVID-19 test and proof of vaccination or negative test to enter some venues and businesses.

Premier Scott Moe made the announcement Wednesday, but stopped short of bringing in measures around gathering sizes.

He says lockdown policies are an infringement on rights and freedoms.

Saskatchewan is the only jurisdiction in Canada without restrictions on gathering sizes.

The province’s chief medical health officer has advised people to stop gathering outside of work and school to brunt the current wave of the pandemic.

Yesterday, the province reported a test positivity rate of 29 per cent, with 121 people in hospital with COVID-19.
