Two people running in Cypress County byelection

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB – Some residents in Cypress County will go to the polls next month.

There will be two names on the ballot in the byelection for Ward 9 Suffield that will take place on Feb. 7.

Keith Ritz put his name forward last week and Layla Vickerman filed her papers hours before the Jan. 10 noon deadline.

Voting will take place at the Suffield Community Hall between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Feb. 7. An advance poll is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 5, also at the Suffield Community Hall.

The byelection is needed due to the death of incumbent councillor Alf Belyea. Belyea was the only one to file in the ward in last fall’s civic election. He died just before election day on Oct. 18.
