Ottawa and Alberta have announced the second phase of a program to help livestock producers hit hard last year by severe drought.
Under the program, producers can apply for more compensation to help cover costs due to prolonged dry weather and extreme high temperatures.
The governments say, together, the initial and secondary payments will put up to $340 million into the hands of farmers.
Alberta Agriculture Minister Nate Horner says without the funding, producers risked losing their competitive advantage by having to sell off their livestock herds.
