City councillor reveals COVID-19 diagnosis

MEDICINE HAT, AB- City councillor Ramona Robins is recovering from a COVID-19 diagnosis

Appearing virtually during Tuesday’s council meeting, Robins said she started having a scratchy throat a few days after Christmas, followed by a fever and chills.

Robins says three out of the six adults in attendance ended up testing positive. All three had received their booster dose.

Since being diagnosed, Robins noted her symptoms have been mild, something she attributes to the vaccinations. Despite being in close contact with her eight-year-old twin girls, they had not tested positive. Both of her daughters have received one dose of the vaccine.

At the council meeting, Robins urged everyone to follow public health orders and to stay home if sick. She also encouraged people to help those suffering from COVID-19 by picking items up at the store so they can stay home and not contribute to further transmission. Robins also emphasized supporting healthcare workers and people who may have lost loved ones due to COVID-19.

“Whether you choose to be vaccinated or choose not to be vaccinated. I think what I really want to emphasize here is that we are all in this together. We may have different opinions about what is best for us. But we are all in this together. So let’s take care of each other, and be kind to one another and stay safe,” Robins said.

Aside from some nasal congestion, Robins said she is feeling okay and is expected to be out of quarantine by Thursday.
