Tigers doubled up by Hitmen 4-2 in matinee affair

CALGARY, AB – Holding onto a lead is one of the lessons a young hockey team has to learn and on Sunday, the Medicine Hat Tigers were schooled once again.

The Calgary Hitmen scored three consecutive goals to roll to victory over their divisional rivals, doubling up the Tigers by a 4-2 final score at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Sunday’s loss caps off a rough 24 hours for the club, after they were trounced 6-1 by the Winnipeg ICE at home on Saturday night.

Hitmen alternate captain Riley Fiddler-Schultz netted a pair of goals in the first period, while Adam Kydd scored the eventual game-winner on the power play midway through the second.

Fiddler-Schultz’s first of the afternoon matinee came 11:43 into the contest finishing off a pretty passing play from line mates Kydd and Maxim Muranov.

The Tigers were quick to respond with Tyler MacKenzie throwing a cross-ice feed to Oren Shtrom for the tying goal less than a minute later however, knotting things up at 1-1.

Calgary product Oasiz Wiesblatt then gave Medicine Hat its first lead of the game following a wild net front scramble and a video review that overturned the original no-goal call.

Tigers rookie call up Cru Hanas earned his first career WHL point with an assist on the Wiesblatt goal.

Medicine Hat’s lead wouldn’t extend into the first intermission though, as Fiddler-Schultz was sprung on a breakaway with under two minutes left before the buzzer sounded and sniped his second of the period past Garin Bjorklund.

Kydd made good on a Hitmen power play midway through the second frame to give Calgary a 3-2 lead, stepping off the boards and ripping home his fourth of the season.

Hitmen forward Blake Allen added an insurance marker seven and a half minutes into the third period and Calgary was able to limit Medicine Hat’s chances late with the empty net.

Bjorklund’s final stat line finished with four goals allowed on 38 shots, while his counterpart in Brayden Peters made 21 stops in the Calgary crease to pick up the win.

Going 1-3 over their four games this week, the Tigers are now off until Saturday night when they kick off a three-game home stand against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
