AHS enhancing visitation limits for acute and continuing care sites

Dec 21, 2021 | 10:50 AM

Starting Tuesday, Alberta Health Services is taking additional precautions to limit transmission of COVID-19 at acute and continuing care sites, with the emergence of the Omicron variant.

AHS says these precautions will include limits to site access for designated support persons and visitors who are close contacts of a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19.

Officials say these measures will apply to anyone who is in close contact with a COVID-positive individual, including those fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

“This means that designated support persons or visitors who are a close contact or have a case of COVID-19 in their home will not be able to access Continuing Care or AHS acute care sites for 14 days from the date of last exposure.”

AHS says these visitation limits are similar to previous waves during the pandemic and are hoped to protect patients, residents and healthcare providers.
