Eagle Butte High School Teacher charged with Sexual Assault

Medicine Hat, AB–A female teacher at Eagle Butte High School in Dunmore has been charged following a sexual assault investigation by Redcliff RCMP.

RCMP say on December 13th, they received a complaint from a student saying they had allegedly been sexually assaulted on multiple occasions by a teacher employed at the school.

The assaults allegedly began in 2021 when the victim was 16 years old. According to the RCMP investigation the offences took place over several months.

Three days later, Redcliff RCMP arrested 27-year-old Rebecca Lynn McCubbin in Medicine Hat.

McCubbin has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a young person.

Prairie Rose School Division Superintendent Reagan Weeks says McCubbin has been employed with the school district for 3 years and has been suspended with pay.

Weeks says school officials are taking steps to support students during this time.

“The school board is committed to protecting the safety of our students and supporting the school community. It (school board) is cooperating with the RCMP and making support resources available to students and staff.”

McCubbin been released from custody with numerous conditions including that she not have unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18. She is also not to attend places where persons under 18 are likely to attend such as a public park or pool.

McCubbin’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 27th, 2022.
