Medicine Hat Christmas Convoy to hit the road again

Dec 15, 2021 | 5:08 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A popular way to give a Christmas boost for our seniors is back this year.

The Medicine Hat Rotary Ignite club is holding its second annual Christmas Convoy.

Organizers are planning to have a number of vehicles lit up with decorations parading around the city to various seniors’ homes.

The event will start at Kin Coulee Park at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, and should last about two hours.

The Rotary Club’s hoping for a repeat of last year’s success.

“We saw a lot of families come out. We saw kids on the side of the road ..and also kids participating (in the convoy). There were some (participants) that said they brought their grandkids along and so i think it’ll be really exciting to have the kids, you know, out the window waving to the seniors,’ Rotarian Karen Blewett said.

She added, ‘”And it was really rewarding. My daughter did it as well. and she was asking about it before it was even planned. She was like, ‘are we doing that again.’ So I think it’s exciting to see that connection.”

Participants are asked to register at Rotary Ignite’s Facebook page, but it’s not mandatory.

Also, you call follow the convoy’s progress in real-time this year on the Glimpse app.

Last year about 38 vehicles took part, and organizers are hoping for 50 this year.
