Premier Jason Kenney is to hold a COVID-19 update this afternoon where it’s anticipated he’ll outline how the province intends to handle the pandemic over the holidays.

CTV News is reporting that Kenney is expected to announce access to free COVID-19 rapid tests for all Albertans.

He is to be accompanied by Health Minister Jason Copping and chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, at the 5 p.m. availability. It was originally set for 3:30 p.m.

Doctors have been encouraging a cautious approach for the holidays to limit the spread of COVID-19, especially since the Omicron variant has been detected in the province.

Yesterday, the province announced that 863 COVID-19 cases were reported over the weekend.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 14, 2021.
