Recoveries outpace new cases in city

Medicine Hat back below 50 active cases of COVID-19

There are 46 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Monday.

Medicine Hat has had 4,611 total cases – the 46 active, 4,487 recovered and there have been 78 deaths.

There are eight new cases in the city since the Friday update and 13 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News Tuesday that there are currently 29 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with four of those in the ICU. There are six inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with no COVID-19 positive patients in the ICU.

Chinook Regional Hospital has 16 inpatients with four in the ICU. Cardston Health Centre and Pincher Creek Health Centre have two inpatients each, and Big Country Hospital has one.

Among Hatters five years old and over, 80.1 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 74.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

76.1 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 71.2 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 4,182 active cases in the province, up 123 from the last update Friday, and 331,834 recovered cases in the province, up 737.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 339,291.

There are 863 new cases in the province since the Friday update.

There are now 357 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 68 of which are in ICU, and 3,275 deaths.

The province completed 20,813 tests since the Friday update.

The positivity rate is about 4.1 per cent.

Alberta has administered 7,147,330 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the province’s chief medical officer of health, posted on Twitter that there have been seven new cases of the Omicron variant identified in Alberta, bringing the total to 30. She said one of the new cases is thought to be a case of community transmission with an unknown source and it is currently under investigation.

Among new cases today, 48.8 per cent are unvaccinated, 1 per cent are partially vaccinated and 51.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among current hospitalizations, 61.3 per cent are unvaccinated, 4.2 per cent are partially vaccinated and 34.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Province-wide, 83 per cent of Albertans five years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 76.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 78 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 72.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are no local outbreaks listed on AHS website.

There are no local schools on Outbreak status. No schools in Medicine Hat are on Alert status, and there are two in the surrounding area.

There are 237 active cases and 22,889 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 289.

The province-wide reproductive value for the weeks of Nov. 29-Dec. 12 is 0.96. It is 0.90 in Calgary Zone, 0.99 in Edmonton Zone and 0.93 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Nov. 15-28, the numbers were 0.88 in the province, 0.90 in Calgary Zone, 0.95 in Edmonton Zone and 0.80 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 871 cases. There are nine active cases, 856 recovered and six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 68.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 64.2.

The County of Forty Mile has 345 total cases. There is one active case, 339 recovered and there have been five deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 42.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 38.5.

The MD of Taber has 1,304 total cases — nine active cases, 1,278 recovered and there have been 17 deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 49.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 45.8.

Special Areas No. 2 has 272 total cases – 10 active cases, 258 recovered and there have been three deaths.

Brooks has 2,104 total cases — three active cases and 2,077 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 24 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 524 cases — 12 active cases, 504 recovered and there have been eight deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 68.2 per cent, the two-dose rate is 62.9. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks and part of Special Areas No. 2.

The County of Warner has 798 total cases. There are 10 active cases, 784 are recovered cases and there have been four deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 61.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 55.8.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 7,260 cases. There are 88 active cases, 7,110 recovered and there have been 62 deaths. Lethbridge County has 2,012 cases, 33 active cases, 1,959 recovered and there have been 19 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Dec. 12, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 81,852 cases, 568 considered active. There are 80,347 recovered cases and there have been 937 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
