Alberta COVID cabinet committee meeting to look at modest relaxation of health measures

There is a chance the province might ease some health restrictions in time for Christmas.

The COVID cabinet committee is meeting today and will meet again on Tuesday to review the state of the pandemic in Alberta.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Premier Jason Kenney said Albertans have been very patient and got the fourth wave under control.

“That’s why we will be looking at some more potential modest relaxation of measures going towards Christmas, but we’ll be looking at all the different data in making that decision,” he said.

Kenney said he’s encouraged by a steady decline in new and active cases, hospitalizations and ICU patients.

Officials are still monitoring the Omicron variant, but the premier is hopeful some measures can be eased.

At present, indoor social gatherings in the province are limited to two households, and up to a maximum of 10 vaccinated people. Children under the age of 12 are not included in that figure.
