MEDICINE HAT,AB- Warm, cozy pajamas will now provide comfort for adults and children who have fled an unsafe home environment with nothing. For two days, pajamas for women, men and children were collected all to benefit the Phoenix Safe House, an emergency shelter, operated by the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society.

The Bring a Child a Smile initiative is put on by CUPE 829, and organizer Sharon Stoltz said the need for pajamas has been greater than ever.

“Every year we collect between 500 to 600 pairs of pajamas and being that this is our seventh year and we missed last year because of COVID-19 last year, so they are in dire straights for pajamas this year their supplies have gone low.” she said.

In just two days of the campaign, over 200 pairs of pajamas were collected. Stolz said the donations will go a long way towards helping people that enter the shelter

“We have had women that have actually got a hold of us, and have been so thankful to have a pair of pajamas to crawl into when they go there,” she said.

Donations are still be being collected and Stoltz said there is still a need for pajamas for teenagers. Anyone who wishes to donate pajamas can do so by dropping them off at any Medicine Hat public school until December 9.
