BRANDON, MB – The Medicine Hat Tigers meet the wrath of Ridly Greig on Friday night, losing an 11th straight contest to kick off a weekend swing through Manitoba.

Greig netted a hat-trick and added two more assists for the downtrodden Tigers, who fell by a 7-4 final at Westoba Place to the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The loss marks 35 days since the last time Medicine Hat earned a victory, allowing a least six goals against for the third time in their last four games.

Wheat Kings defender Vincent Iorio opened the scoring with a blazing wrist shot to beat Beckett Langkow just over two minutes into the game.

Greig followed that up with a goal of his own five minutes into the first period, left alone in front of the net to put away a nifty pass by Marcus Kallionkieli.

Medicine Hat halted the slide 75 seconds later, as Brayden Boehm dropped a pass for Daniel Baker who unloaded a wrist shot past Ethan Kruger to cut into the deficit 2-1.

In the second period, Brandon exploded offensively with Greig potting his second of the night while shorthanded just 3:15 into the middle frame.

That was followed by back-to-back goals by the Wheat Kings, first by a power play tally from Kallionkieli and a breakaway marker courtesy of Brett Hyland to extend Brandon’s lead to 5-1.

Hyland’s goal ended up chasing Langkow from the Tigers net, pulled after allowing five goals on 19 shots against.

A bit of silver lining came with six minutes before the intermission, as Medicine Hat forward and Brandonite Cayden Glover scored his first career WHL goal in front of friends and family.

That goal closed the gap to 5-2 for the Tabbies, however the Wheat Kings were able to re-establish their four-goal lead midway through the third period.

Greig crashed the net and was able to get a second chance opportunity past Garin Bjorklund, completing the hat-trick with 9:29 remaining.

The Tigers made it interesting late with Steven Arp batting a Glover shot past the goal line in the final five minutes, before Lukas Svejkovsky ripped a laser beam of a wrist shot for his 10th of the year on the power play to make it a 6-4 game.

But, the Wheaties sealed it with their second shorthanded goal of the night courtesy of Nate Danielson.

Kruger earned the victory between the pipes for Brandon with 30 saves, while Bjorklund made 11 stops in relief of Langkow.

Friday’s game was also a reunion for brothers Noah and Nate Danielson, who played against each other for the first time in their respective WHL careers.

With their 11th straight loss the Tigers now hold a record of 4-11-3-1 through 19 games and will wind up their weekend in Winnipeg on Saturday night, facing the top-ranked ICE at 7:00 pm MST.
