Credit on utility bills

Prizes for those who switch to electronic utility bills, those who already have

Nov 5, 2021 | 3:17 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – City of Medicine Hat utility customers who sign up to get their bills electronically over the next six weeks – and those who already do – could win a credit toward their bill before the end of the year.

The city wants to reduce the number of paper copies of monthly utility bills it sends out each month.

Customers who sign up for eBilling before 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 are entered to win one of three prizes: $500, $200 or $100 in cash credit on their utility account. Anyone who registered for paperless billing prior to Nov. 1 is automatically entered to win separate three utility account cash credits of $500, $200 and $100.

The draws will be randomly-generated by a computer on Dec. 15 and winners will be notified by email. The prize credit will show on their next

The city says there are 14,682 customers currently receiving electronic bills which represents about 45.1 per cent of the city’s residential utility clients.

“There’s been great progress with the eBilling program, but we still have work to do. In January of 2020, only 38 per cent of customers were paperless. In January 2021, it was up to 42 per cent. We’re hoping to hit a target of 50 per cent by the end of January 2022, and that this contest will help,” adds Denise Schmaltz, manager of customer care and billing.

To sign up, residents can select paperless billing when they log on to their eUtility account at www.medicinehat.ca/eutility. Anyone who doesn’t already have an eUtility account will need their current utility account number and access code which can be found on one of their paper utility statement. Then select eBilling during the registration. Anyone who registers is automatically entered into the contest.
