Five new cases in city, 603 in province

Medicine Hat drops below 150 active COVID-19 cases, records two new deaths

There are 145 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Friday.

Medicine Hat has had 4,414 total cases – the 145 active, 4,192 recovered and there have been 77 deaths, two new today.

There are five new cases in the city since Thursday and 15 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Thursday that there are currently 83 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with 19 of those in the ICU. There are 26 inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with 6 in the ICU.

Chinook Regional Hospital has 39 with 13 in the ICU. Cardston Health Centre has seven inpatients; Brooks Health Centre has three; Bow Island Health Centre, St. Michael’s Health Centre and Taber Health Centre have two each; Pincher Creek Heath Centre and Raymond Health Centre have one each.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 83.6 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 76.6 per cent are fully vaccinated.

72.6 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 66.5 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 8,158 active cases in the province, down 229 from Thursday, and 311,738 recovered cases in the province, up 824.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 322,989.

There are 603 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours.

There are now 765 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 180 of which are in ICU, and 3,093 deaths.

The province completed 10,505 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 5.7 per cent.

Alberta has administered 6,528,133 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Among new cases today, 63.5 per cent are unvaccinated, 5.2 per cent are partially vaccinated and 31.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among current hospitalizations, 70.5 per cent are unvaccinated, 5.2 per cent are partially vaccinated and 24.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Province-wide, 86.9 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 79.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 73.9 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 67.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are a number of local outbreaks listed on AHS website.

There are no local schools on Outbreak status. Five schools in Medicine Hat are on Alert status, as well as two in the surrounding area.

There are 868 active cases and 21,047 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 268.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Oct. 11-17 is 0.85. It is 0.88 in Calgary Zone, 0.85 in Edmonton Zone and 0.84 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Sept. 27-Oct. 3 the numbers were 0.92 in the province, 0.93 in Calgary Zone, 0.86 in Edmonton Zone and 0.94 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 827 cases. There are 19 active cases, 802 recovered and six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 64.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 58.

The County of Forty Mile has 335 total cases. There are 22 active cases, 308 recovered and there have been five deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 39.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 34.2.

The MD of Taber has 1,217 total cases — 43 active cases, 1,160 recovered and there have been 14 deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 46.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 41.

Special Areas No. 2 has 235 total cases – four active cases, 229 recovered and there have been two deaths.

Brooks has 2,076 total cases — 22 active cases and 2,031 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 23 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 464 cases — 25 active cases, 433 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 64.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 56.3. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 746 total cases. There are 51 active cases, 691 are recovered cases and there have been four deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 57.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 51.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 6,870 cases. There are 282 active cases, 6,531 recovered and there have been 57 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,896 cases, 98 active cases, 1,780 recovered and there have been 18 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Oct. 28, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 77,305 cases, 2,364 considered active. There are 74,095 recovered cases and there have been 846 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
