MEDICINE HAT, AB – Invest Medicine Hat is in need of a new managing director.

In a release Thursday morning the City of Medicine Hat announced Jason Melhoff will be stepping down effective immediately, citing “growing health challenges which surfaced in July 2021.”

Erik Van Enk, currently director of investments and strategic planning at Invest Medicine Hat (IMH), will serve as interim managing director.

“Jason built a strong team of subject matter experts at IMH and Mr. Van Enk is a highly skilled business and financial executive, eager to continue momentum on various initiatives,” stated city manager Robert Nicolay.

Melhoff joined the Invest Medicine Hat team as managing director in March 2020.

Invest Medicine Hat became a focal point of conflict of interest concerns this summer. Orka Management Group, a company formed by three IMH staffers, was the only bidder to take over the company when the City of Medicine Hat put it out for tender.

Orka rescinded its bid amid the controversy and public outcry. Invest Medicine Hat staff have defended their bid and an independent third-party review found no wrongdoing by City Hall.
