MEDICINE HAT, AB – Fire crews responded to a grassfire in the green belt area between Parkview Drive and Hunter Court late Saturday night.

Fire Captain Jeff Kozakewich said they were first notified of a structure fire shortly after 11 p.m.

“As we arrived on scene, we could see smoke and orange glow from behind the structure. We thought it was on the back side of the house,” Kozakewich said. “Upon investigation, it was actually a wildland fire.”

After a quick change of tactics, addition wildland fire units arrived on scene and the fire was under control within 10 minutes.

While the the cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet, Kozakewich said there were reports of possible fireworks being shot off in the area.
