Our nominator says owners Shawn and Tamara make sure their dojo is 100 per cent available for kids to attend.

“If a parent is struggling to pay the monthly fee’s they will work with them to make sure the child doesn’t miss out,” the nomination reads. “I even know that they have given free lessons to some children whose parent lost their jobs due to the recent COVID pandemic. Everything they do is to make sure that no child feels or has to worry about the ongoing COVID pandemic.”

Shawn and Tamara also run summer camps for children donate what they can to other local projects like the recently built skate park in Redcliff.

The style of karate taught at White Dragon Karate is Goju Ryu, which features hard and soft techniques. Go, meaning hard, refers to closed hand techniques or straight linear attacks; Ju, meaning soft, refers to open hand techniques and circular movements. This style of karate presents as real-world self defense and students will train for the battle, in hope it never comes.
