During his time on council, Turner served on numerous committees. He was on the Energy and Infrastructure Committee and Public Services Committee at the time of his passing.

He also represented the city on boards for the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce, the Cypress View Foundation and Economic Development Alliance.

Turner was a past executive director for the Medicine Hat & District Food Bank and was also manager of the former IGA food store in the Southview Mall.

In a social media post from the food bank, Turner was remembered as “an avid Food Bank and community supporter and we can only hope to continue to make Jim proud of the work we do.”
