33 new cases in city 1,434 in province

Provincial hospitalizations, ICU admissions and deaths continue to rise; one new death in Medicine Hat

There are 583 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Tuesday.

Medicine Hat has had 3,034 total cases – the 583 active, 2,406 recovered and there have been 45 deaths, one new today.

There are 33 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and 48 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday that there are currently 79 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with 20 of those in the ICU. There are 33 inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with eight in the ICU.

MHRH has 10 ICU beds, but Medicine Hat physician Paul Parks has said they don’t have the people to man them all as they did in previous waves of the pandemic.

Chinook Regional Hospital has 34 with 12 in the ICU. Cardston Health Centre has eight inpatients, the Brooks Health Centre has three, and Pincher Creek Health Centre has one.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 74.6 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 67.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

64.8 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 58.4 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 18,265 active cases in the province, down 130 from Monday, and 251,475 recovered cases in the province, up 1,555.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 272,211.

There are 1,434 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours, and 1,985 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 822 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 212 of which are in ICU, and 2,471 deaths.

The province completed 11,880 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 12.1 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,665,956 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

During a Monday conference call, chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said the province lifting all restrictions in July was the wrong move and set the trajectory for the fourth wave.

Among new cases today, 71.4 per cent are unvaccinated, 6.5 per cent are partially vaccinated and 22.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among current hospitalizations, 74 per cent are unvaccinated, 4 per cent are partially vaccinated and 22 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The number of local outbreaks listed on AHS website has been rising across the city in the past weeks. Moduline and the Salvation Army Shelter have been added in recent days.

Medicine Hat (855.9), Cypress County (1,062.1) and the MD of Taber (909.4) are each in the top 15 in the province for active cases per 100,000 people.

Province-wide, 79.4 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 71.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 67.5 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 60.6 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 1,796 active cases and 14,763 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 174.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5 is 1.12. It is 1.14 in Calgary Zone, 1.09 in Edmonton Zone and 1.12 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Aug. 16-22 the numbers were 1.19 in the province, 1.05 in Calgary Zone, 1.32 in Edmonton Zone and 1.22 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 618 cases. There are 120 active cases, 497 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 56 per cent, the two-dose rate is 49.7.

The County of Forty Mile has 191 total cases. There are 17 active cases, 171 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 32.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 28.9.

The MD of Taber has 823 total cases — 173 active cases, 643 recovered and there have been seven deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 39.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 35.7.

Special Areas No. 2 has 148 total cases – 27 active cases, 120 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,738 total cases — 107 active cases and 1,615 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 16 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 328 cases — 40 active cases, 284 recovered and there have been four deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 54.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 47.9. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 532 total cases. There are 43 active cases, 486 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 49.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 43.7.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,520 cases. There are 309 active cases, 5,168 recovered and there have been 43 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,469 cases, 120 active cases, 1,335 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Sept. 13, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 59,673 cases, 3,929 considered active. There are 55,117 recovered cases and there have been 627 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
