City tops 3,000 total cases, nearly 600 active

Another 117 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, 18 more deaths

Alberta averaged 1,580 new COVID-19 cases per day since Friday. An additional 117 Albertans are hospitalized due to COVID-19 and there are 29 more Albertans in the ICU.

Eighteen Albertans died from COVID-19 in that time.

Active cases of COVID-19 are up by 34 and there were three COVID-related deaths over the weekend in Medicine Hat.

There are 599 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Monday.

Medicine Hat has had 3,001 total cases – the 599 active, 2,358 recovered and there have been 44 deaths.

There are 129 new cases in the city since the last update on Friday and 92 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday that there are currently 79 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with 20 of those in the ICU. There are 33 inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with eight in the ICU.

MHRH has 10 ICU beds, but Medicine Hat physician Paul Parks has said they don’t have the people to man them all as they did in previous waves of the pandemic.

Chinook Regional Hospital has 34 with 12 in the ICU. Cardston Health Centre has eight inpatients, the Brooks Health Centre has three, and Pincher Creek Health Centre has one.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 74.5 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 67.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

64.7 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 58.3 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 18,395 active cases in the province, up 1,991 from Friday, and 249,920 recovered cases in the province, up 2,895.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 270,777.

There are 4,740 new cases in the province since the Friday update, and 2,340 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 803 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 198 of which are in ICU, and 2,462 deaths.

The 198 COVID patients in ICU is a record-high for Alberta. The number of Albertans in hospital is the highest since early January.

The province completed 40,088 tests since the Friday update.

The positivity rate is about 11.8 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,656,213 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Among new cases today, 71.6 per cent are unvaccinated, 6.1 per cent are partially vaccinated and 22.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among current hospitalizations, 73.4 per cent are unvaccinated, 7 per cent are partially vaccinated and 22.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Medicine Hat College announced Monday it is one of nine post-secondary institutions in Alberta that will require staff and students to be fully vaccinated.

The number of local outbreaks listed on AHS website has been rising across the city in the past weeks.

Medicine Hat (879.4), Cypress County (1,044.4) and the MD of Taber (914.6) are each in the top 15 in the province for active cases per 100,000 people.

Province-wide, 79.2 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 71.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 67.4 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 60.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 1,802 active cases and 14,619 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 171.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5 is 1.12. It is 1.14 in Calgary Zone, 1.09 in Edmonton Zone and 1.12 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Aug. 16-22 the numbers were 1.19 in the province, 1.05 in Calgary Zone, 1.32 in Edmonton Zone and 1.22 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 612 cases. There are 118 active cases, 493 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 55.8 per cent, the two-dose rate is 49.6.

The County of Forty Mile has 186 total cases. There are 13 active cases, 170 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 32.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 28.7.

The MD of Taber has 811 total cases — 174 active cases, 630 recovered and there have been seven deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 39.2 per cent, the two-dose rate is 35.6.

Special Areas No. 2 has 147 total cases – 26 active cases, 120 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,732 total cases — 113 active cases and 1,603 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 16 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 325 cases — 39 active cases, 282 recovered and there have been four deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 54.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 47.8. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 528 total cases. There are 41 active cases, 484 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 49.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 43.6.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,481 cases. There are 286 active cases, 5,153 recovered and there have been 42 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,461 cases, 121 active cases, 1,326 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Sept. 12, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 59,165 cases, 3,776 considered active. There are 54,764 recovered cases and there have been 625 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
