IRVINE, AB – A Saskatchewan male has been arrested after allegedly using a hammer to demand money at the Irvine Hotel on Labour Day.

Redcliff RCMP say shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday the suspect entered the hotel, brandished a hammer and demanded money from an employee. The male left after the employee refused to provide any money.

The male was seen fleeing in a white Dodge Ram truck, which was located near Dunmore. Police attempts to stop the truck were unsuccessful.

Later the suspect was located near Suffield and arrested after he fled on foot from the truck into a field west of the town. Brooks RCMP and the Redcliff Integrated Traffic Unit assisted with the arrest.

Investigation revealed the truck the male was driving had been reported stolen in Saskatchewan.

The 21-year-old man from Herbert, Sask., faces more than a dozen charges including robbery, flight from police, mischief under $5,000 and four counts of assaulting a police officer.

After a bail hearing, the man was released on a no cash deposit release order and is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Oct. 5.
