57 new cases in city, 1,401 in province

One new COVID-19 death in Medicine Hat, active cases still rising

There are 569 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Friday.

Medicine Hat has had 2,578 total cases – the 569 active, 1,978 recovered and there have been 31 deaths, one new today.

There are 57 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and 40 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Thursday that there are currently 61 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with 13 of those in the ICU. There are 27 inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with five in the ICU.

MHRH has 10 ICU beds, but Medicine Hat physician Paul Parks said on Wednesday they don’t have the people to man them all as they did in previous waves of the pandemic.

Chinook Regional Hospital has 24 with eight in the ICU. Cardston Health Centre has six inpatients, and Pincher Creek Health Centre and Crowsnest Pass Health Centre have two each.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 73 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 66.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

63.4 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 57.4 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 13,495 active cases in the province, up 627 from Thursday, and 241,100 recovered cases in the province, up 772.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 256,985.

There are 1,401 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours, and 845 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 515 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 118 of which are in ICU, and 2,390 deaths.

The province completed 12,551 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 11.2 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,583,842 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Earlier Friday, the province announced a cash incentive and more public health restrictions in an attempt to encourage people to get vaccinated and stop the spread of the virus.

Among new cases today, 68 per cent are unvaccinated, 7.3 per cent are partially vaccinated and 24.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among current hospitalizations, 77.7 per cent are unvaccinated, 3.7 per cent are partially vaccinated and 18.6 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The number of local outbreaks listed on AHS website has been rising across the city in the past weeks.

The city has the sixth-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 835.4. The ID of Wood Buffalo has the highest rate at 32,367.2. There are 190 active cases among the small population of just 587 people.

Province-wide, 78.3 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 70.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 66.6 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 59.7 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 1,398 active cases and 13,724 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 151.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 16-22 is 1.19. It is 1.05 in Calgary Zone, 1.32 in Edmonton Zone and 1.22 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Aug. 2-8 the numbers were 1.25 province-wide, 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 521 cases. There are 92 active cases, 428 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 54.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 48.6. The county has the seventh-highest case rate per 100,000 people at 814.3.

The County of Forty Mile has 175 total cases. There are 14 active cases, 158 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 28.3.

The MD of Taber has 673 total cases — 78 active cases, 589 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 38.5 per cent, the two-dose rate is 34.9.

Special Areas No. 2 has 126 total cases – 13 active cases, 112 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,657 total cases — 92 active cases and 1,550 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 295 cases — 30 active cases, 262 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 53.2 per cent, the two-dose rate is 46.9. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 494 total cases. There are 16 active cases, 475 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 48.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 42.9.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,256 cases. There are 211 active cases, 5,005 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,374 cases, 64 active cases, 1,296 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Sept. 2, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 55,396 cases, 2,755 considered active. There are 52,031 recovered cases and there have been 610 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
