New mural aims to promote diversity in city

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Under the Allowance Avenue overpass is a big splash of colour, a contrast to the usual cement grey that has harboured the area for some time.

The words “you belong in this city” are painted in neon orange with Medicine Hat in the background. With spray paint in his hands, graffiti artist Jeff Goring got to work this week as part of an effort to promote diversity in the city.

“It is just in the sense of no matter what country you are from, no matter what you are going through, with everything in life, we are all different walks of life here and this is just letting people know that you belong in this city, you want to be welcoming you want to be inclusive,” Goring said.

The mural came together in partnership with The City of Medicine Hat, Pop up Parks, The Connection Intercultural Association of Medicine Hat, The Pride Association of Southeast Alberta and Saamis Immigration.
