31 new cases in city, 629 in province

Two new COVID deaths in Medicine Hat, active cases down

There are 527 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Tuesday and two more city residents have died from COVID-19.

Medicine Hat has had 2,138 total cases – the 527 active, 1,584 recovered and there have been 27 deaths. Five Hatters have died of COVID-19 in the past two weeks.

There are 31 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and 53 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday that AHS South Zone currently has 32 COVID-19 positive individuals in hospital, with 10 of those in the ICU. There are 20 positive inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, with seven of those in the ICU. MHRH has 10 beds for ICU patients.

Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge has six inpatients, with three of those in the ICU. The Cardston Health Centre has four inpatients, and both Big Country Hospital in Oyen and the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre have one inpatient each.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 72.1 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 65.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

62.6 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 56.5 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 7,931 active cases in the province, up 154 from Monday, and 235,312 recovered cases in the province, up 468.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 245,598.

There are 629 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours, and 841 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 258 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 57 of which are in ICU, and 2,355 deaths.

The province completed 6,010 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 10.5 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,503,259 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

The number of local outbreaks listed on AHS website has been rising across the city in the past weeks.

Listed new today are outbreaks at two childcare facilities – Building Blocks Childcare in Medicine Hat and IF Cox Kindercare Program in Redcliff.

Outbreaks have been declared at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and a handful of other health-care facilities.

The city has the second-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 773.7. Banff is the highest at 847.5.

Province-wide, 77.4 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 68.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 65.8 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 58.6 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 989 active cases and 13,000 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 144.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 16-22 is 1.19. It is 1.05 in Calgary Zone, 1.32 in Edmonton Zone and 1.22 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Aug. 2-8 the numbers were 1.25 province-wide, 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 435 cases. There are 77 active cases, 357 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 53.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 47.1. The county has the third-highest case rate per 100,000 people at 681.5.

The County of Forty Mile has 169 total cases. There are 10 active cases, 156 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31.2 per cent, the two-dose rate is 27.9.

The MD of Taber has 607 total cases — 29 active cases, 572 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 38.2 per cent, the two-dose rate is 34.4.

Special Areas No. 2 has 114 total cases – six active cases, 107 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,583 total cases — 42 active cases and 1,526 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 271 cases — 15 active cases, 253 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 45.9. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 480 total cases. There are eight active cases, 469 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 47.8 per cent, the two-dose rate is 42.1.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,087 cases. There are 143 active cases, 4,904 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,312 cases, 36 active cases, 1,262 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 23, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 52,800 cases, 1,625 considered active. There are 50,583 recovered cases and there have been 592 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
