Almost 2,000 new cases in province

20 COVID-19 patients in Medicine Hat hospital, seven in ICU

Medicine Hat averaged 40 new daily cases of COVID-19 over the weekend and has blown past 2,000 total cases over the course of the pandemic.

There are 551 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Monday.

Medicine Hat has had 2,107 total cases – the 551 active, 1,531 recovered and there have been 25 deaths.

There are 121 new cases in the city since the last update on Friday and 92 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday that AHS South Zone currently has 32 COVID-19 positive individuals in hospital, with 10 of those in the ICU. There are 20 positive inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, with seven of those in the ICU. MHRH has 10 beds for ICU patients.

Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge has six inpatients, with three of those in the ICU. The Cardston Health Centre has four inpatients, and both Big Country Hospital in Oyen and the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre have one inpatient each.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 72 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 65 per cent are fully vaccinated.

62.5 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 56.4 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 7,777 active cases in the province, up 1,068 from Friday, and 234,844 recovered cases in the province, up 899.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 244,969.

There are 1,972 new cases in the province since the Friday update, and 1,599 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 244 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 54 of which are in ICU, and 2,348 deaths.

The province completed 22,952 tests since the Friday update.

The positivity rate is about 8.6 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,495,479 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

The city has the second-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 808.9. Banff is the highest at 1,003.6.

Province-wide, 77.3 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 68.8 percent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 65.8 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 58.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 984 active cases and 12,925 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 141.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 16-22 is 1.19. It is 1.05 in Calgary Zone, 1.32 in Edmonton Zone and 1.22 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Aug. 2-8 the numbers were 1.25 province-wide, 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 435 cases. There are 77 active cases, 357 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 53.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 46.9. The county has the third-highest case rate per 100,000 people at 681.5.

The County of Forty Mile has 167 total cases. There are eight active cases, 156 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 27.9.

The MD of Taber has 601 total cases — 24 active cases, 571 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 38.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 34.2.

Special Areas No. 2 has 114 total cases – seven active cases, 106 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,578 total cases — 37 active cases and 1,526 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 271 cases — 15 active cases, 253 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 45.8. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 479 total cases. There are eight active cases, 468 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 47.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 42.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,071 cases. There are 140 active cases, 4,891 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,308 cases, 32 active cases, 1,262 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 22, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 52472 cases, 1,556 considered active. There are 50,330 recovered cases and there have been 586 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
