MEDICINE HAT, AB – Registration for fall sports is ramping up across the city.

For many parents, there are financial barriers that make enrolling their kids in activities difficult. This is where KidSport Medicine Hat & Redcliff comes in.

Families struggling to cover registration fees can apply for a grant of up to $300. This helps ensure kids can enjoy the benefits of playing sports.

Chantelle Legault says due to the pandemic, there weren’t a lot of funds going out last year and adds the organization is in a good position.

“Right now we’re going to be OK just because the community is so amazing and is always willing to donate when we need it,” Legault said. “We actually provide more funds than most KidSport chapters. Most KidSport chapters only provide $250 in funding but because Medicine Hat is such a supportive community, we are able to provide $300.”

Over the summer, KidSport provided funding to give kids needing some extra help the chance to participate in camps through Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport. This fall, thanks to a partnership with the Calgary Flames, a total of $400 in grant money will be available for hockey applicants.

Grant applications can be found here.
